De-Stress with Horse Stance/Mountain Pose

Quick “de-stressor” amidst daily activities

Byron demonstrates a simple grounding technique We can all do to help catch our breath in the midst of stressful moments.

Why bring your attention and awareness to the soles of your feet?

The soles of our feet are what connects and grounds us to the earth. Most of us go through each and every day consumed with thoughts and worries stagnating energy in our chest and head primarily due over thinking, stress and worry. Bringing our awareness to the entire soles of our feet and how our sole contacts the earth brings our awareness to a more grounded and connectivity with the earth. This grounding takes that stuck energy in our upper body and head and makes us feel more aware, centered and grounded.

In particular the acupuncture/acupressure point called kidney 1 located on the sole of the foot just behind the toe pad in the center of the foot is key to achieving this awareness.

Peter Deadman in a Manual of Acupuncture writes: “ kidney 1 has a powerful effect on reducing excess above by returning the unrooted back to its source reflected in the statement kidney 1 echoes the earth”. ( https://www.acunow.org/peter-deadman.html )

Kidney 1 is also an important point in the practice of Qigong and Yoga. Directing the mind to kidney 1/the soles of our feet and inhaling and exhaling through this point, roots and grounds in our Center/Core/Dantien and also helps us absorb the Yin energy of the earth.

Mountain pose in yoga and a Horse stance pose used in martial arts, massage, taiji and qigong are stances used to achieve a wonderful feeling of grounding, balance and inner harmony.
